Filip Zubcic runner-up in World Cup giant slalom in Austria

AUSTRIA, 2 March 2020 –Croatia’sFilip Zubcic (27) has produced another fantastic performance to finish second in the 2020 Hinterstoder Alpine Ski World Cup giant slalom in Austria on Monday.
After the first run, Zubcic was in second place, just 0.90 seconds behind the leader Alexis Pinturault from France after finishing in a time of 1:25.20.
The Croatian was second to last to complete the final second run and after a time of 1:17.21, he would take the lead in the event with an overall time of 2:42.41.
Pinturault was last up and with a second run of 1:17.66 would take the victory with an overall time of 2:41.96, just 0.45 seconds ahead of the Croatian.
Last month, Zubcic gave Croatia its first ski World Cup win since Ivica Kostelic back in 2013 after a stunning performance in the men’s World Cup giant slalom on at Yuzawa Naeba in Japan.
An inspiring second run would give him a combined time of 2:37:35 seconds to win his first World Cup giant slalom.
Born in Zagreb, Zubcic has competed for Croatia in two Winter Olympics and five World Championships. The win was the first for Croatia outside the Kostelic family.
