ZAGREB, 7 Nov (Hina) – The First Black Truffle Educational Trail was presented in Turopoljski Lug, Zagreb County on Monday with the aim of showing visitors that there are truffles also in that region which they can explore on tourist routes.
Truffles are rarely linked to continental Croatia, but Zagreb County is proving the opposite as Turopoljski Lug, rich in Quercus robur oak, is full of truffles. The mapping of Turopoljski Lug as a truffle destination began 16 years ago.
The First Black Truffle Educational Trail in Zagreb County is a project combining the natural beauty and the gastronomic excellence of the Turopolje region. It is a result of joint work and a European project of the Zagreb County Tourist Board, the town of Velika Gorica, the Croatian Tourist Board, the Hrvatske Šume forest management company, and Posušje municipalityin southern Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the support of Croatia’s Regional Development and EU Funds Ministry.
The First Black Truffle Educational Trail in Turopolje “is not just a new tourist attraction but a reflection of our deep strategic focus on sustainable tourism. We are dedicated to creating a tourist offer which respects and promotes our natural and cultural resources, encourages active tourism and includes the local population,” said Ivana Alilović, director of the Zagreb County Tourist Board.
Their intention, she added, is to inform visitors to Turopoljski Lug, which is 20 minutes from the centre of Zagreb, that it contains an underground treasure – truffles.
