First Diesel-Electric Train Operational in Croatia


The first prototype diesel-electric passenger train has made its first journey today, when it set off from the Zagreb Central Train Station just after 11am on route to the northern town of Kotoriba.

Croatian company Gredelj, in collaboration with KONCAR Electric Vehicles. developed and built the prototype diesel-electric train engine for regional transport.

The train is expected to travel an average of 150 km in distance with frequent stops on its journeys. It is equipped with four pairs of 1.3m wide double door’s, and equipped with movable ramps for entry and exit of people in wheelchairs. The train’s cabins are also under video surveillance and there are tinted safety glass windows for protection from the sun. The train’s maximum speed is 140 km / h, and has 209 seats with the capacity for 410 people.
