First Electro-Diesel Train Makes Maiden Journey

Made by Koncar – Electric Vehicles, the can reach a maximum speed of 120 kmph, has 167 seats and standing room for 175 passengers. The first electro-diesel train has four pairs of double doors, two ramps for wheelchairs, a section for bicycles and CCTV.
The train will operate on the Zagreb (main station)- Zabok – Varaždin and return route, which transports more than 2 million passengers annually. The new train is part of a new fleet ordered by Croatian Railways . 32 electric trains, including 12 trains with an electro-diesel locomotive, will join the current fleet in a projected valued at 1.63 billion kuna.
To date 10 electric trains for regional and 8 electric trains for commuter transport have been delivered by Koncar.
Travelling aboard the train today was Transport Minister Oleg Butkovic, Croatian Railways CEO of Passenger Transport Drazen Ratkovic, and Koncar – Electric Vehicles CEO Darinko Bago.
“Strong restructuring in all road operators and in the railway sector will be our priority,” said Butkovic.
