The first ever Gay Pride parade to be held in the eastern Croatian city of Osijek has passed without any incidents on Saturday, drawing praise from organisers…
Around 200 participants from Osijek, Zagreb, Split, Belgrade, Macedonia and Montenegro took part in the procession on Saturday in front of a very well-behaved crowd. Around 100 police officers, and more private security guards kept an eye on proceedings, with no major incidents reported.
“Tolerance is essential for every society and there is no economic or other progress without it, freedom of expression and the right to dignity”, Economy Minister Ivan Vrdojlak said on Saturday, adding that he also congratulated the first male couple registered as civil partners in Zagreb yesterday.
Parade “They took to the street to show that they don’t demand additional rights, but equal rights, and that they don’t demand some rights, but all rights,” organising committee member Mirna Zlatić said.
