First Ferry Arrives as New Port Opened in Zadar

Minister of Transport Siniša Hajdaš Dončić, Minister of Defence Ante Kotromanović and General Ante Gotovina were at Gaženica port today to greet the ‘Jadran’ ferry travelling on the Preko-Zadar line. The new port has opened up a number of new connections, with nine new lines connecting Zadar with the islands of Ugljan and Pašman introduced.

The new port is expected to receive its first cruiser ship on 24 April and authorities are expecting that 130,000 passengers on cruisers alone will arrive in the new port in 2016, which is an increase of 50% traffic for Zadar. The government have invested around 120 million euros into the new ferry terminal in Zadar, which was designed by well-known architect Nikola Bašić.

Gaženica is built along 1,420 meters of coastline, has 12 moorings for ferries, 300 meters of coast for a new fishing port, and a 180 metre breakwater. Besides island, coastal and international ferries, the terminal can accommodate the largest kind of cruise ships. (photos / Vlada)
