Foreign national dies during Croatian island cliff climb

A man has tragically died while climbing a dangerous cliff at Beritnica Beach on the Croatian island of Pag, the Lika-Senj police has confirmed.

Local rescue teams from the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) in Zadar and Gospić were dispatched to the scene and successfully rescued a second person from the rocks.

A Croatian Air Force helicopter, along with a team of aerial rescuers, was also involved in the operation.

– Today around 13:30, HGSS received a report of a serious accident in the area of Metajna, on the island of Pag. Unfortunately, one person died due to falling from a cliff, while the other person was rescued and was not injured, HGSS said.

HGSS ground teams from Zadar and Gospić intervened on the field and successfully pulled out the injured person from the rock.

The pair had been ascending the Stogaj cliff when the accident occurred. Both individuals are foreign nationals, according to the HGSS.
