For the past ten days, temperatures all across Croatia have soared into the high 30s, prompting city officials in the capital Zagreb to take action.
In response to the relentless heatwave, the City of Zagreb are offering free entry to all municipal swimming pools and museums this weekend, providing residents with much-needed relief and a chance to escape the sweltering heat.
Free entry to the pools will be available from Friday, 19th July, to Sunday, 21st July 2024.
The participating pools are SRC Šalata, Iver, SP Mladost, ZP Mladost, and BK Utrina.
However, the Svetice pool will not be available this weekend due to a sporting event, and the Jelkovec pool is currently undergoing regular annual maintenance.
Next weekend, free entry will also be available to the air-conditioned city museums of Zagreb, including the Archaeological Museum, Ethnographic Museum, Zagreb City Museum, and Museum of Contemporary Art.
These venues offer a refuge from the heatwave, allowing visitors to explore exhibitions and collections.
Should there be additional heatwaves this summer, the Sports Facilities Management, city museums, and the City of Zagreb will consider providing free entry to municipal swimming pools and museums on other weekends, helping residents stay cool and cope with the heat.
More information on opening hours and offerings can be found on the websites of the museums and the Sports Facilities Management.
