Friday Pie Shop: First place dedicated to American pies in Zagreb

ZAGREB, 30 September 2021 – When Elvira Petak lost her job last year, she decided to turn her love for baking American pies into a business.

“Last year I made this big career turn. Luckily, I lost a job I didn’t really love and made this big decision to just go with this “project”. It took a year to organise everything, and also create a story about my pies,” the public relations expert tells us.

In ten days time Elvira will open Friday Pie Shop, the first place in Zagreb dedicated to American pies.

Located in Trešnjevka at Šarengradska 13, Friday Pie Shop initially offers eight different pies, with themed and seasonal pies also being added to the menu.

Each pie has its own name, such as Jolene (apple pie), Marilyn (fruits of the forrest crumble pie), Virginia (brownie pie), Nancy (chocolate and banana pie) and Dorothy (coconut cream pie). There are also quiche pies – Austin, Billy Bob and Lorraine – on the menu which are a great choice for breakfast, brunch or lunch.

“For the past couple of years I attended a lot of pastry courses, and my specialty is shortcrust pastry – the one we use for our pies,” says Elvira, adding. “Soon there will be more pies, and we will always offer some specialties like pumpkin pie for Halloween or blueberry or plum pie in the summer.”

Elvira says that no pie contains additives, with white sugar only used for sprinkling ,and that ingredients are sourced from domestic family farms.

Friday Pie Shop is starting out with delivery & take out only, but there is a plan, all things going well, of opening a sit-in dining shop next year.

The working hours of the shop will be from Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 5 pm, but Elvira points out that they will work outside these hours if need be and agreed.
