A new book titled “KNJIGA O KONOBI” is a compilation of two previously published books, “KONOBA” and “PRIČA O KONOBI.” The book has been translated and published in English as “A BOOK ABOUT THE KONOBA.”
“Now, everything is consolidated in one place,” says Miki Bratanić, author of this unique story that represents Dalmatian, Croatian, and Mediterranean traditional cultural heritage through the story of the konoba.
The book is rich with his essays about what the konoba meant to people in the past, what it means today, and what it will mean in the future.
There are many black-and-white photos taken in the mid-20th century on Dalmatian islands and the coast, depicting labor in vineyards and konobas, such as harvesting and winemaking.
These photos are combined with the author’s haiku poems.
Many prominent figures have praised the book, including: Dr. sc. Silvio Braica, Prof. dr. sc. Joško Belamarić, Dr. sc. Josko Ćaleta, Prof. dr. sc. Ivan Urlić, dr. med., Doc. dr. sc. Neven Ljubičić, dr. med., Prof. Veljko Barbieri, and three regular members of the Croatian Academy of Art and Science: Prof. dr. sc Tomislav Raukar, Prof. dr. sc. Nenad Cambj, and Jakša Fiamengo.
All of them have found positive, polite, and appreciative words for the author’s work and his project.
Bratanić has a new publisher and distributor, Redak, which will be able to meet worldwide demand for this book. Redak has its own print-on-demand production line and web shop, where seven books written by Miki Bratanić can be found and purchased.
“I am very happy that people all around the world, especially our Croatian diaspora, will be able to order my books about the konoba and others. My story of the konoba was very well received by audiences after my presentations in New York, Boston, and San Francisco, confirming that our Croatian tradition, heritage, and culture are attractive to readers,” says Miki Bratanić, owner of a konoba recognized as “Protected cultural heritage of the Republic of Croatia.”
Miki Bratanić is the author of the following books about konoba: “KONOBA” (translated into Italian and English as THE KONOBA/LA KONOBA), “PRIČA O KONOBI” (translated into English as STORY OF THE KONOBA), “PRIČE IZ KONOBE ZA DJECU,” and “PRIČE IZ KONOBE ZA STARIJE.” Three of these are available for purchase through the Redak web shop: “KNJIGA O KONOBI,” “A BOOK ABOUT THE KONOBA,” and “PRIČE IZ KONOBE ZA STARIJE.”
For his many years of continuous contribution to the promotion and preservation of cultural heritage through his creative and professional work, Miki Bratanić was awarded the Personal Award of the City of Stari Grad.
He is the winner of the prestigious Marco Polo medal for achievements in promoting Croatia in tourism, awarded by the international institution Fédération Internationale des Journalistes et Ecrivains du Tourisme.
This recognition was for his long-term contribution to promoting and preserving cultural heritage and traditional features of Croatian tourism through the project “Priča o konobi” (“Story of the konoba”). The international organization that operates under the UN, the Croatian World Congress (USA), also awarded him recognition for his contribution to connecting expatriate and homeland Croatia.
