Fans of famous American fantasy, horror and sci-fi novelist, screenwriter and television producer George R.R. Martin got a pleasant surprise when they turned up for a book promotion in Zagreb on Wednesday night…
The fans had turned up to Zagreb’s Retro cafe for the promotion of Martin’s new fantasy collections – A Knight of Seven Kingdoms – but the last thing they expected was to be chatting with the author himself. A well-kept secret, Martin surprised all in attendance when he appeared for a live chat via Skype.
The jovial author, who shared a few jokes whilst conversing with organiser Neven Antičević, had a few messages for his Zagreb fans, including encouraging them to keep reading books.
“With each new reading a new world opens up,” said Martin.
Martin is best known for A Song of Ice and Fire, his international bestselling series of epic fantasy novels that HBO adapted for its dramatic series Game of Thrones. Martin serves as the series’ co-executive producer, while also scripting one of each season’s 10 episodes. In 2005, Lev Grossman of Time called Martin “the American Tolkien”,and the magazine later named him one of the “2011 Time 100”, a list of the “most influential people in the world. A Knight of Seven Kingdoms goes on sale in Croatia today.
