A Good Friday tradition in the eastern city of Osijek continued yesterday with fiš paprikaš, or fish stew, handed out to locals and tourists.
Organised by the City of Osijek, the masters of cauldrons from Slavonia and Baranja cooked 2,000 portions of fiš paprikaš for the people. Over 300 kilograms of fish was used.
Osijek Deputy Mayors Dragan Vulin and Jasenka Crnković took part in the distribution of the delicious traditional Slavonian holiday delicacy.
“I am glad that a large number of our fellow citizens gathered here. The city has provided 2,000 portions of top-quality fish cooked by the cauldron masters of Slavonia and Baranja. I am glad that we can support each other on the eve of the greatest Christian holiday,” Dragan Vulin said, wishing everyone a happy Easter.
“I am extremely glad that we gathered here in such large numbers on such a beautiful day. The citizens are delighted with the fiš paprikaš made by top masters. We wish all citizens a happy Easter, to spend it in peace and togetherness with their families,” said Jasenka Crnković.
Our cauldrons are 70 litres. The slight differences are only in the taste, whether it is saltier or hotter. Each of us has our own secret and our own touch. It is cooked for about 40 minutes, on wood, over a high heat,” said the President of Udruga majstora kotlića of Slavonia and Baranja Davor Tomić.
