Church bells rang out, flares were lite, champagne was popped and Croatian flags waving in Ante Gotovina’s home town of Pakostane in Croatia after he was freed this morning by The Hague Court.
Gotovina’s Brother Boris was the first to open the champagne in their family home in the Dalmatian town of Pakostane.
“After the horrible decision (Gotovina’s original sentence of 24 years jail) I knew this judge Meron would free my brother. I always believed, from the first day, that the truth would win. We have just heard from each other. There was so much emotion that we didn’t even speak at the start, I just told him that I am proud of him that he remained brave and proud”, said Boris to 24sata after the verdict.
