Andrija Balić and Tomislav Kiš have put Hajduk Split in a commanding position after the first leg of their UEFA Europa League qualifier against Norway’s Strømsgodset in Split on Thursday night…
Hajduk started the stronger out the two sides and dominated possession in the first spell in front of 28,000 fans at Poljud stadium. Despite going into the break 0-0, Hajduk created a number of chances in the first half. It took a wonder striker from Andrija Balić to break the deadlock midway through the second spell. Strømsgodset barely threatened the Hajduk goal, and when Tomislav Kiš headed home in added time in the second half it gave Hajduk a deserved 2-0 lead going into the away leg in Norway next week.
“We played excellent in the first half. The guys executed the plans perfectly and it was a shame we could not capatilise on the chances we had, but I am happy with the result,” said Hajduk coach Damir Burić.
