Handball: Croatia into world championship quarterfinals

Croatia has secured its spot in the quarterfinals of the 2025 IHF World Men’s Handball Championship after a nail-biting victory over Slovenia on Sunday.

In front of a packed Zagreb Arena, Croatian fans created an electrifying atmosphere, helping their team to a hard-fought 29-26 win. This means Croatia finishes top of heir Main Round group. 

However, the match did not start well for the home side. Slovenia came out strong, quickly taking a 5-0 lead.

Croatia gradually worked their way back into the game, levelling the score 15-15 just before halftime.

The second half was a tense affair, with the lead changing hands multiple times.

Both teams fought fiercely, but it was Croatia’s goalkeeper, Dominik Kuzmanović, who made a series of crucial saves to keep his team in the game.

With ten minutes remaining, Croatia finally managed to pull ahead by three goals. Despite Slovenia’s determined efforts to close the gap, the Croatian team held firm, spurred on by the passionate support from the stands.

Croatia’s next challenge will be against Hungary in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
