Highlights for Croatian sports fans in 2019

1 January 2019 – There was a lot of happy moments in 2018 for Croatian sports fans. A historic football World Cup, Davis Cup tennis champions, Sandra Perković winning a record five titles in a row, and world rowing, sailing and karate titles, were just some of the successes last year.
Here are some of the main highlights Croatian sports fans have to look forward to in 2019.
JANUARY
10th – 27th: 2019 World Men’s Handball Championship (Germany & Denmark)
Croatia will be hoping to repeat their gold medal performance from the 2003 World Championships.
14th – 27th: Tennis Grand Slam – Australian Open (Australia)
A number of Croatians will be playing in Melbourne this year, with Marin Čilić and Borna Ćorić Croatia’s best hopes.
FEBRUARY
14th: Viktoria Plzen v Dinamo Zagreb (UEFA Europa League last 32)
Dinamo Zagreb play their UEFA Europa League round of 32 first leg match.
21st: Dinamo Zagreb v Viktoria Plzen (UEFA Europa League last 32)
22nd: Croatia v Italy (Basketball World Cup Qualifier)
25th: Hungary v Croatia (Basketball World Cup Qualifier)
MARCH
21st: Croatia v Azerbaijan in Zagreb (Football – Euro 2020 qualifiers)
24th: Hungary v Croatia (Football – Euro 2020 qualifiers)
MAY
26th – 9th June: French Open tennis – Roland Garros

JUNE
8th: Croatia v Wales (Football – Euro 2020 qualifiers)
16th-30th: Under-21 Euro – football
Croatia will be hoping to go far at the Under-21 Euros. They have been drawn in the same group as England, France and Romania.
JULY
1st-14th: Wimbledon
Again, Croatian tennis players will be chasing glory at Wimbledon.
AUGUST
25th: World Rowing Cup starts
Valent and Martin Sinković will be aiming to defend their world title
26th – 1 September: US Open tennis
SEPTEMBER
6th: Slovakia v Croatia (Football – Euro 2020 qualifiers)
9th: Azerbaijan v Croatia (Football – Euro 2020 qualifiers)
28th – 6th October: World Athletics Championship in Doha
Sandra Perković will be aiming to defend her gold medal from London in the discus.
OCTOBER
10th: Croatia v Hungary (Football – Euro 2020 qualifiers)
13th: Wales v Croatia (Football – Euro 2020 qualifiers)
NOVEMBER
16th: Croatia v Slovakia (Football – Euro 2020 qualifiers)
