American Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrived in Croatia on Wednesday as part of her tour of North Africa and South-East Europe. Clinton was greeted at Zagreb international airport by Croatia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Vesna Pusic, before meeting with President Ivo Josipovic and Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic, where Croatia’s role in NATO and its forthcoming accession to the European Union was discussed.
The American Secretary of State says that America has had excellent relations with Croatia for over 20 years.
“The USA is proud that it can work with Croatia. We are glad that Croatia will soon join the European Union,” said Clinton, adding that Croatia is the anchor in the region and that it has done a lot of work in the fight against corruption.
Croatian President Ivo Josipovic was pleased to hear of the USA’s interest in working with Croatia, especially on their economic plan.
“I am sure that amongst investors to Croatia there will be a large number from the USA. Hillary Clinton has shown a great interest in Croatia’s position in the region. As a member of the EU we will offer support to our neighbours,” said the President, adding that he was thankful for what America had done for Croatia up until now.
The visit will end with a dinner organised for Clinton by Pusic.
