Holidaying Croat Wins 5kg of Gold in Dubai

A Croat on holiday in Dubai has won 5 kilograms of gold in a shopping mall competition…

Dražen Maglov won the ‘Dubai Gold and Jewellery’ competition which was held at the start of this year to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Shopping Festival. The competition was open to both locals and foreigns and news of the win came as a shock to the Croatian, writes Khaleej Times.

“I was driving when I got the call from Dubai to tell me that I won 5 kilograms of gold. I was certain that someone who knew about my trip to Dubai was having me on, but when I realised it was true I simply could not believe it and I am still trying to believe that it is real,” said Maglov, who was in Croatia when he got the good news.

“In a period of just five seconds my life as well as my family’s life changed forever. I run a small grocery store in Croatia and I have a large joint family to provide for. Now I can plan my life better. Thank you Dubai! The emirate is truly a city of gold and I was amazed with the way gold and diamond jewellery is displayed at the shops in Dubai for public view and sale,” the happy winner added.

Maglov is now over 200,000 USD richer with Gold today fetching over 41,000 USD per kilo. (photo / khaleej times)
