32 years after Croatian contemporary artist Tomislav Gotovac acted out his famous performance on Zagreb’s main street, a pavement monument has been laid in his honour. In 1981 Gotovac performed Zagreb, I love you, which saw him run naked, kissing the asphalt of the capital’s famous Ilica street. The performance shocked Zagreb’s otherwise conservative public.
Tomislav Gotovac honoured 32 years later
Gotovac, who died in 2010 aged 73, was one of Croatia’s most important contemporary artists, exhibiting throughout the world. In 2007 Gotovac was awarded the Croatian Association of Visual Artists’ Life Achievement Award. Tomislav Gotovac died in 2010.
