ZAGREB, January 30, 2024 – One of the most iconic bands merging hip-hop and metal, Body Count from Los Angeles, will return to the Croatian capital Zagreb, taking the stage at Šalata Stadium on Sunday, June 16, 2024.
Pioneers of crossover led by Ice T, mark their return to Zagreb after six years, following a sold-out concert at Boćarski dom months in advance.
Body Count delivers raw old-school crossover, a brutal fusion of hip-hop and metal. Over the years, they’ve undergone lineup changes, disbanded, and reunited, yet their cult following has always awaited them at concerts worldwide.
Even after more than three decades, they continue to solidify their position in the music scene, evidenced by their Grammy win for Best Metal Performance with “Bum Rush” from their latest album “Carnivore.” The tireless Body Count announces a new album, “Merciless,” for 2024, while simultaneously headlining major European stages.
The inception of the band is one of the greatest stories in the global alternative scene. Ice T, besides his rap career, was a huge fan of hard rock and metal in his youth. During the ’80s, he made a big name in the hip-hop scene, and in the early ’90s, he devoted himself to the band he formed with high school friends. Body Count’s first performances were at Lollapalooza, where Ice T generously shared half of their set time, and their first recording appeared on his “O.G. Original Gangster” album, considered one of the most important gangsta rap records. Preceding the track “Body Count,” Ice T responded to accusations of selling out by incorporating rock elements into rap.
Everything exploded with their debut album and the controversial single “Cop Killer,” along with equally provocative tracks like “KKK Bitch,” “Evil Dick,” “Momma’s Gotta Die Tonight,” “There Goes The Neighborhood,” and “Body Count’s In The House,” a favorite in many rock clubs. The album stirred up the entire white America, from President Bush and Senate members to Charlton Heston, leading to the eventual withdrawal of “Cop Killer” and its replacement with a less contentious version titled “Freedom Of Speech.”
In the years that followed, Body Count experienced highs and lows, with sadly three original members passing away. Nonetheless, in the last decade, they released three fantastic albums, “Manslaughter,” “Bloodlust,” whose single “Black Hoodie” earned a Grammy nomination, and “Carnivore,” which earned them a Grammy for Best Metal Performance. The indomitable Ice T and Body Count show not only that they’ve stood the test of time but also that they remain one of the most sought-after live acts on the planet.
