SENJ, 26 January 2019 – The bura, which is a northern to north-eastern wind, is the most furious on the eastern coast of the Adriatic.
At the foothills of the Velebit mountain range it can be at its most ferocious in Croatia and this week in the coastal town of Senj, a hurricane-strength bura measuring 189 kmph swept through.
The Storm Chasing Team from Senj hosted friends from Slovenia on Nehaj Fortress in Senj to demonstrate the power of the renowned wind. The crew made an video showing how difficult it is to drink a glass of wine whilst being battered by the bura.
The crew posted the video on their Facebook page and it quickly became a hit with thousands of likes and shares.
The strongest bura winds ever recorded in Croatia were recorded on Maslenički most (Maslenica Bridge) on the night of 21 December 1990 when winds of 248.4 kmph howled across.
