ZAGREB, 22 November 2019 – This year’s Christmas Bazaar, which is traditionally organised by the International Women’s Club Zagreb with the help of representatives of diplomatic corps in Croatia, will be held on the 1st of December at the Zagreb Velesajam in pavilion number 8.
The opening ceremony will be conducted by the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb (HNK) with a 16 minute performance of Madame Butterfly. The principal soloist, Valentina Fijačko Kobić, will perform the Aria of Cio-Cio San Un bel di vedremo from the opera ‘Madama Butterfly’ directed by Giacomo Puccini, accompanied by a string quintet of the leading musicians of the HNK orchestra.
After the Aria, the string quintet will perform Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Divertimento in F major K.138/125C. The whole programme will last approximately 16 minutes. Following this will be country performances on stage throughout the day from Croatia, Japan, Serbia, India, Macedonia, and Ukraine.
“This year we will have 35 countries participating and they will be preparing and selling their usual homemade specialities and delicacies from their countries. This is a wonderful way to experience over thirty different international foods under one roof. Additionally, there will be souvenirs and items being sold from participating countries, so this a great opportunity to do some Christmas shopping and buy unique items from countries such as. Japan, South Korea, Turkey, Italy, Ukraine, Egypt and others. Also, Father Christmas will be visiting the Bazaar and giving out sweets to the children. There is a very exciting raffle with wonderful prizes to be won, such as airline tickets donated by Croatia Airlines and Turkish Airlines, language courses, hotel vouchers, clothing and more,” organisers said.
All proceeds collected during the event go to support Mali Zmaj (Little Dragon), an association which helps improve the quality of life of those less fortunate and neglected children.
