ZAGREB, Aug 8 (Hina) – On August 13 the Italian discount store chain Eurospin will open a store in Zadar, the first of 100 stores it plans to open in Croatia, the Jutarnji List daily reports in its Saturday issue.
Just as in Italy, where it operates more than 1,000 stores, and in Slovenia, where it has opened around 50 shops, in its supermarket in Zadar Eurospin will sell exclusively its own trademarks of food, beverages, household items and other goods, at prices, it says, lower than those of their competition.
Asked if Eurospin will cause any major changes in the domestic retail sector if it eventually opens 100 stores in the country, Martin Evacic, director of the NTL store chain and representative of the retail sector at the Croatian Employers Association, said that he did not believe there was room on the Croatian market for an additional 100 supermarkets, the reason being market saturation, including of its discount sector.
