Croatian international Ivan Perišić will leave Hajduk Split just months after signing for the club, it was confirmed today.
Perišić signed for the club back in January and after just 8 appearances, it was announced this afternoon that he will be leaving the club.
The 35-year-old made headlines this week when he was left out of Hajduk’s squad for their league clash this past weekend against NK Lokomotiva in Zagreb. Perišić didn’t travel with the squad.
In a press conference after the match, Hajduk coach Gennaro Gattuso revealed that Perišić had gone to his office and informed him of his desire to leave the club 20 days ago.
Immediately Hajduk fans took to social medial and turned against the Croatian International, accusing him of only using the club to rehabilitate his injury ahead of Euro 2024. The club were forced to make a statement to calm the situation.
On Tuesday morning, a meeting with Perišić and the club was held at Poljud, and Hajduk Split sporting director, Nikola Kalinić, made the following statement:
“We regret that an atmosphere has developed which has had a particularly negative impact on the Club, but especially on Ivan and his family, who have undeservedly faced numerous difficulties.
It was known from day one that Ivan would likely stay until the end of the summer. Unfortunately, in the last few days, disagreements arose, resulting in a mutual agreement where both parties amicably decided not to continue their collaboration.
In the coming days, we will decide whether the separation will take the form of a transfer or a mutual contract termination.
Due to the significant importance of the upcoming match, the entire Club is fully focused on the return leg. Therefore, I urge the fans to give their full support to the team and the coaching staff at a packed Poljud on the road to the play-offs,” Kalinić said.

Perišić first arrived at Hajduk back in 2000 as an 11-year-old boy and went through the youth ranks there.
He then went on to play for Sochaux, Roeselare, Borussia Dortmund, Wolfsburg, Inter, Bayern, and Tottenham. In January 2024 he returned to Hajduk but did not make his first appearance until April as he was recovering from an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury.
In his career at the club level, he has scored 98 goals and 99 assists in 465 matches.
