Croatian international Joško Gvardiol is set to become the most expensive centre-back in history with his move to Manchester City almost complete.
According to Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano, who specialises in transfer news, Manchester City and Leipzig are ironing out the final details of the deal which will see the 21-year-old move to the European champions for a record fee.
Gvardiol will have a medical on Friday, if all goes to plan, and the deal will be signed by end of the week. The deal in place is for a €90m fee, with Gvardiol set to become the most expensive CB ever, Romano said.
The Croatian footballer was Pep Guardiola’s biggest wish this summer and if the deal goes through then it will surpass the current record for a centre-back of €87m which Manchester United paid for Harry Maguire.

He will also join his national team team-mate Mateo Kovačić at City, who signed for them earlier in the summer.
Gvardiol, who had a sensational World Cup, moved to Leipzig from Dinamo Zagreb and has played 59 times for the Bundesliga club. Dinamo Zagreb will also benefit from the transfer with a clause in the player’s contact meaning they will receive a percentage.
He made his debut for Croatia in 2021 and has been capped 21 times for his country, scoring twice, including in the third-place playoff against Morocco at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
