Croatian ice hockey club KHL Medveščak Zagreb, who play in the Kontinental Hockey League, have signed Czech international star Radek Smolenak for the 2015-16 season. Smolenak has played in the NHL, KHL, Finnish Liiga, Swedish SHL and Czech Extraliga…
Smolenak, who was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 3rd round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, will join fellow Czechs Marek Kvapil and Tomas Mertl at the ‘Den’ this season. The Bears will certainly benefit from the 6ft’2in forward’s experience in the NHL, KHL, Finnish Liiga, Swedish SHL, Czech Extraliga, and with the Czech national team.
Smolenak’s talents are not just on the ice – he’s also no stranger to acting and had a role in the Czech comedy Babovresky 2, which came out last year. Like many of his hockey friends before him, he played himself in the comedy.
The 2015–16 KHL season will be the eighth season of the Kontinental Hockey League. The season will start on the 24th of August with the Opening Cup between defending champions SKA Saint Petersburg and finalists Ak Bars Kazan.
