Korčula island hosting international baroque festival

KORČULA, 3 September 2019 – The 8th Korkyra Baroque Festival being held on the Croatian island of Korčula has opened.
Held until 14 September, the festival will once again host prestigious international and domestic ensembles and soloists, specialised in the performance of baroque music.
“We proudly present our guests: Ensemble Odyssee (Denmark), La Ritirata (Spain), Plaisirs de Musique (Czech Republic), Musica Batavia (Netherlands), Monteverdi String Band (United Kingdom), I Musicali Affetti (Italy), as well as renowned soloists: Krešimir Stražanac; bariton, Monika Cerovčec; soprano, Sonja Runje; mezzosopran, Anabela Barić; soprano, Franko Klisović; countertenor and conductors and harpsichord players Aapo Häkkinen and Pavao Mašić. These talented artists will be joined by the resident ensemble of the festival, the Croatian Baroque Ensemble led by distinguished violinist and Festival’s Artistic Director, Laura Vadjon,” organisers announced.
The concerts will be held in the impressive historic venues in and around the town of Korčula: St. Mark’s cathedrale, All Saints church, Arneri palace and others. As well as the Island of Vrnik, Vela Luka and Pelješac peninsula.
The Korkyra Baroque Festival was established in 2012 in order to promote local and international music and cultural heritage. Superb concert evenings and Korčula’s impressive culture monuments create a unique synergy and the Korkyra Baroque Festival has gained the reputation of a must-attend event on the global music scene.
