The Leda shipyard on the southern Dalmatian island of Korcula has launched its largest ever ship to be built there on the weekend.
The ‘Frisian Sea Sneek’ container ship, commissioned by the Dutch shipyard “Peters Shipyards,” is 118.19 metres long and 13.43 metres wide. The ship, the largest in the shipyard’s history, will predominantly sail the northern seas. On Friday the Korcula shipyard signed a contract with the Dutch to build an even larger ship which work will begin on in September. Leda shipyard is set to receive new investment next month, including a 250-tonne portal crane which will be the second largest in Croatia, as its entry into ‘off shore’ markets will see a host of new ships built there.
