Kostelić Claims Croatia’s First Winter Olympic Medal in Sochi

Croatia
Croatia has won its first medal at the Winter Olympics in Sochi thanks to a fantastic performance by three-time Olympic silver medalist Ivica Kostelić in the men’s super combined today…

Kostelić, who won the World Cup super-combined in Sochi two years ago, won the silver medal after finishing just 0.34 seconds behind the gold medal winner, Switzerland’s Sandro Viletta.

“Considering the season I have had this is a huge reward. To have this consistency throughout 8 years, a lot has changed on the podium, but I have stayed there,” a delighted Kostelić said after his second place run on Friday.

Today’s silver medal makes it four Olympic silver medals for Kostelić in total, after he won 2 in 2010 in Vancouver, and one in 2006 in Turin, and Croatia’s 11th Winter Olympic medal overall, with Ivica’s sister Janica winning 6 medals, including four gold.
