On the occasion of its 74th anniversary of artistic activity, Croatia’s LADO Ensemble will mark the event with the performance of special premiere concerts, titled Drmeš, Kolo, Polka, Zurka.
The birthday concert of the only national professional folk ensemble will take place in November. The selected choreographies and musical works are dedicated to the dance, musical, and traditional costume heritage of the lowland, central, and northwest regions of Croatia.
The Drmeš, Kolo, Polka, Zurka concert will have its first performance on November 6, 2023, at the Varaždin National Theater, for which tickets are available for purchase through the theater’s official website. The concert in Đurđevac will be held on November 8, and tickets are free, obtainable from October 17 at the reception of the Đurđevac Sands Visitor Center.
Shortly after its establishment, LADO held its first major concert in 1950 at the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb, to which it returns every year to commemorate this significant birthday event for the LADO Ensemble. The first performance at the Zagreb National Theater will be on November 10, with a few tickets remaining available through the box office and the official website of the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb, while the November 11 performance will be closed to the public.
Performances will continue on November 16 in Pisarovina, with free entry to the concert. LADO will return to Zagreb on November 21 at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall, with tickets available for purchase via the Ulaznice.hr system. The audience in Slavonia will have the opportunity to watch LADO on November 28 at the Ivan Brlić Mažuranić Theater and Concert Hall, with tickets soon to be available for purchase.
The last of the series of annual ceremonial concerts by LADO will take place in Hungary, on November 30, 2023, in Pécs, in the impressive ambience of the Kodály Center. Tickets for the Pécs concert are now on sale through the venue’s official website.
Drmeš, Kolo, Polka, Zurka are the most prominent and indispensable traditional dances of certain Croatian regions situated “between the Sava, Danube, and Drava rivers” and along with them. Through this program, LADO will take the audience on a dance and musical journey through Posavina, Moslavina, Bilogora, Turopolje, Slavonia, Baranja, Srijem, Međimurje, and Podravina.
Drmeš, Kolo, Polka, Zurka, the special annual dance concert of the LADO Ensemble, is an opportunity for the audience to once again witness the energetic and powerful stage presence of the only national professional ensemble.
LADO Ensemble’s concerts leave no one indifferent, as they are based on excellent choreographic and musical achievements and stage interpretations that are so closely tied to their origins.
