Larger aircraft for United’s New York-Dubrovnik route as interest rises

United Airlines announce direct flight croatia USA

United Airlines

United Airlines is again connecting New York with the popular  Croatian city of Dubrovnik this summer, with two services running until 19 September.

The heightened interest already in June has prompted the airline to deploy larger aircraft on this route.

Sandra Lacković, a journalist from HRT, reported from Dubrovnik that British and American tourists are the most numerous visitors to the city, which is connected to around 70 international destinations.

The direct Dubrovnik-New York route operates four times a week.

“United Airlines has deployed a larger aircraft this year due to the increased interest in Dubrovnik, achieving a capacity occupancy of approximately 87 percent. This June, we are expected to handle 425,000 passengers, which is about 20 percent more than in June last year and even in June 2019,” Lacković noted.

She also emphasised that “tourist traffic has increased since the summer flight schedule began, with a 30 percent increase in traffic.”

“This growth has been contributed to by the low-cost carrier RyanAir, which will continue to connect Dubrovnik during the summer months. If this growth continues, Dubrovnik Airport is expected to achieve 3.2 million passengers by the end of the year, which would be a historic result,” she added.

More than 21,000 tourists are currently staying in Dubrovnik

“We were here last year and decided to come back again. We are really enjoying it; it’s truly beautiful,” said one guest.

“We came for a holiday, without any particular reason, just to have a good time. We’re staying for ten days,” added a tourist from Britain.
