You know some basic Croatian, enough to get you by, but there is nothing that will impress more than knowing a local phrase or slang that you can slip into a conversation. Croatia Week has launched its ‘Word / Phrase of the Day’, where we will teach you a variety of words and phrases commonly used in Croatia, but not commonly found in language learning material.
Today’s Phrase
Pomalo
Today’s phrase of the day is more a philosophy of life than just a phrase. Pomalo captures the essence of the mentality and lifestyle on Croatia’s Dalmatian coast in one word. The slow, relaxed, no problem, there is always tomorrow, 2-hour coffee – attitude of Dalmatians summed up with just one word. The literal translation is – a little bit.
Example: “Vincent, I have been waiting for those reports for two days now”…. ” Hey, pomalo”
