You know some basic Croatian, enough to get you by, but there is nothing that will impress more than knowing a local phrase or slang that you can slip into a conversation. Croatia Week has launched its ‘Word / Phrase of the Day’, where we will teach you a variety of words and phrases commonly used in Croatia, but not commonly found in language learning material.
Today’s Phrase
ispeci pa reci
Today’s phrase of the day ispeci pa reci is basically the english equivalent to ‘think before you speak’. The literal translation is – bake it then say it.
Example: “Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.” – George W. Bush…Classic case of ‘ispeci pa reci’
