Today’s Phrase
tko vino večera, vodu doručkuje
The phrase tko vino večera, vodu doručkuje is used in the situation when one has to pay the consequences for ones actions. A hangover is a classic example, and acutally relates to the literal translation of the phrase which is – ‘Who has wine for dinner, has water for breakfast’. It is used however in various situations when one can not avoid paying the price for their actions.
Example – “I saw Vincent was adjudged Bankrupt in the paper today, I guess he was living the high life..fast cars, women, booze…” Yes, he only has himself to blame…as they say..tko vino večera, vodu doručkuje.”
