Learning Croatian: Phrase of the Week

You know some basic Croatian, enough to get you by, but there is nothing that will impress more than knowing a local phrase or slang that you can slip into a conversation. Our ‘Word / Phrase of the Week will teach you a variety of words and phrases commonly used in Croatia, but not commonly found in language learning material.
Today’s Phrase:
‘Tko prvi, njegova djevojka’
The phrase Tko prvi, njegova djevojka is basically the equivalent of the English phrase – ‘first in, first served’. The literal translation however of the Croatian version is – Who is first gets the girl.
Example – “I just went to get some ćevapi from the BBQ but they had run out, “Unlucky, I saw Vincent take about 10…tko prvi, njegova djevojka..”
