Is the Croatian language hard to learn? If you ask most people new to the language they would say it definitely is.
But that does not mean you still can’t impress locals and make a few people laugh by learning some well-known Croatian sayings or phrases.
In this series we will teach you commonly used sayings in Croatia which are not typically found in language learning material.
Today’s saying:
ne zna ni ‘ko pije ni ‘ko plaća – pronunciation [ne znar-knee-core-pea-year-core-plar-chair]
English: The phrase ne zna ni ‘ko pije ni ‘ko plaća is basically a phrase used to sum up when you can not make head nor tail of a situation. Can be for complete disorganisation or chaos. It is often used when something is not really clear what is going on when looking at it and can be used for a number of cases which lacks organisation or order.
The literal translation is – You don’t know who is drinking or who is paying.
