Legendary Croatian athletics coach Ivan Ivančić has passed away suddenly last night at a hospital in the capital Zagreb. He was 77...
Croatia loses one of its true coaching greats with the passing of Ivančić. Ivančić, who was an athlete himself, winning two European shotput golds, a Mediterranean Games gold and bronze medal, and was the oldest competitor at a World Games (45), has coached a number of the country’s top athletes.
One of Ivančić’s products is current World discus champion Sandra Perković, coaching her to European and Olympic gold. Besides Sandra, Ivan has coached a number of successful athletes, including Ivana Brkljačić, Edis Elkasević and world junior discus champion Martin Marković. Ivančić was rushed into hospital earlier this week and the cause of his death is not yet known. Rest in Peace.
