Lena Stojković has won a bronze medal for Croatia in the Olympic taekwondo tournament on Wednesday in Paris.
In the fight for bronze in the -49 kg, the 22-year-old Croatian triumphed over Merve Dinçel, the world champion from Turkey.
Stojković celebrated at the end of the fight, grabbing the Croatian flag and showing her delight at winning yet another medal.
Stojković lost earlier in the semi-final to the much-fancied Panipak Wongpattanakit from Thailand.
Tonight’s medal in Paris was Croatia’s sixth at the Games following successes by shooter Miran Maričić, rowing brothers Valent and Martin Sinković, judoka Barbara Matić, tennis player Donna Vekić, and discus thrower Sandra Elkasević.
Stojković, who is a member of Taekwondo Club Marjan in Split, has five gold medals from major competitions and there were high expectations for her claiming a medal in Paris.
In the under 46-kilogram category, she is a three-time European and two-time world champion. She claimed European gold in 2021, 2022, and this year, and became world champion in 2022 and 2023.
She was named Croatia’s best sportswoman two years in a row by the Croatian Olympic Committee.
