This weekend saw the sixth Croatian Walking Festival, which brought together walkers from around the globe.
The festival began on Saturday, 31st August, in Otočac, and continued on Sunday, 1st September, in Gospić, offering participants the opportunity to enjoy the natural splendours of Lika and Croatia.
Walkers could choose from one of three routes—10+, 20+, or 30+ kilometres—and the organisers ensured that every participant received the necessary support, including official T-shirts, food, water, music, and transportation.
All participants needed to bring with them was a good attitude, appropriate footwear, and a readiness for two days of walking in good company, amidst the stunning Lika landscape and fresh air.
Joining the walkers along the way was the great inventor Nikola Tesla, portrayed by Boris Šušnjar, a licensed tour guide for the City of Zagreb, as well as the Zagreb, Karlovac, and Lika-Senj counties. His presence entertained the walkers and enriched their experience.
Over the course of the two days, the festival attracted more than 1,500 walkers, many of whom came from abroad, representing 22 different countries, including the United States, Australia, Canada, Japan, Norway, Denmark, and Afghanistan.
This international presence further enhanced the festival and demonstrated that Lika is becoming an increasingly recognised destination on the world map for walking enthusiasts.
The Walking Festival was not just an opportunity for physical activity through idyllic scenery but also a chance to connect with nature, promote a healthy lifestyle, and explore the cultural and natural heritage of Lika.
Many participants decided to extend their stay in Lika after the festival to further explore the region’s natural, cultural, and other attractions.
The Croatian Walking Festival continues to grow year by year, and judging by this year’s turnout, we eagerly anticipate the next festival.
The event, organised by the Croatian Walking Association, the Lika-Senj County Tourist Board, and Lika Travel Ltd., once again demonstrated that Lika can be a perfect destination for those looking to combine recreation with natural beauty.
