Continuing the successful series of gold and silver coins titled “Authentic Croatia,” the Croatian National Bank, in collaboration with the Croatian Mint, has issued the silver coin “Black Lizard” weighing 2 ounces.
The Black Lizard resides on Brusnik, a Croatian island whose name, according to local legend, derives from the harsh conditions where the sea and winds continuously polished and sharpened its rugged, hard-to-access shores.
This uninhabited island, noted for its geological history marked by volcanic origins and porous limestone, has been a protected natural monument since 1951.
Brusnik is home to numerous endemic species, including the Brusnik lizard, which thrives amidst the island’s crystal-clear waters and vibrant underwater landscapes.
The latest coin, designed by famous sculptor Nikola Vudrag, in the “Authentic Croatia” series pays tribute to the rich history and striking beauty of Brusnik Island, as well as the Black Lizard, one of its most renowned inhabitants.
This unique coin, weighing 2 ounces, has been struck in ultra-high relief and is part of a limited series of just 400 pieces.
New owners will receive their “Black Lizard” coin in thematically designed packaging, developed in collaboration with Dig Studio designers.
The set includes a decorative box, a capsule, a booklet, and a certificate signed by the Governor of the Croatian National Bank.
You can purchase your piece of authentic Croatia, dedicated to the legendary Brusnik lizard, from the Croatian Mint’s online shop starting 21 January.
