LNG Croatia and Norwegian company Wartsila Gas Solutions have announced a new contract to deliver an additional regasification module to the LNG Croatia Terminal, LNG Croatia reported on Friday.
The module, with a maximum capacity of 250,000 m3/h, is worth EUR 22,970,000 and is set to increase the terminal’s total capacity.
The construction of the new regasification module is scheduled to take 22 months, with its installation on the FSRU vessel LNG Croatia planned for the summer of 2025. This addition will ultimately double the terminal’s capacity, further bolstering Croatia’s energy security and gas supply.
The decision to expand the capacity of the LNG Terminal comes as a result of the Croatian Government’s decision in August 2022 to build the Zlobin – Bosiljevo gas pipeline and expand the terminal’s capacity to 6.1 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
At the contract signing event, Davor Filipović, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, emphasized the significance of the expansion project. He noted that by strengthening the gas pipeline network and expanding the terminal capacity, Croatia is positioning itself as an energy hub for the region.
Following the installation of the regasification module on the FSRU vessel LNG Croatia and the completion of the gas pipeline Zlobin – Bosiljevo, additional capacities will be available to the market from October 1, 2025, at the start of the gas year 2025/2026.
The project represents a significant investment in Croatia’s energy infrastructure, and is expected to have positive economic and environmental impacts. As the country continues to prioritize sustainable energy solutions and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, the expansion of the LNG Terminal represents a crucial step forward.
