20 August 2019 – Singapore cafe owners Ben and Lynette have ‘tipped their hat’ to Croatia after falling in love with the country during a visit by naming their tearoom ‘Hvala’ (Croatian for thank you).
“The first time we visited Zadar, Rovinj, Pula and Zagreb, and the second time we were in Zadar, Split and Dubrovnik. Our favourite city was definitely Zadar because of the Sea Organ and the relaxed atmosphere. Our favourite restaurant in Croatia is Kornat in Zadar. There we experienced the best service and kindness. That is why we chose the world ‘Hvala’ for our brand,” the couple told Vecernji list.
The couple say that a lot of customers are curious as to the origin of the name and how to pronounce it.
“Considering our specialty is Japanese tea, everyone is shocked that we chose a Croatian name. But in the past few years, especially after the football World Cup, more and more people in Singapore know for Croatia and have travelled there,” Ben and Lynette said.
The couple hope to visit Croatia again soon.
“Sometimes we really want to eat seafood, cheese and wine which we can not get in Singapore.
