The head of one of the poorest counties in Croatia has caved in to public pressure and returned a 430,000 kuna Audi A6 just two weeks after leasing the car using tax payers money…
Sisak-Moslavina head Marina Lovrić Merzel came under fierce criticism after she leased the 7-speed luxury car, with the news making headlines around the world after angry Sisak residents placed more than 200 toy cars in front of County headquarters in protest.
“We wanted to show her that there is something human in us despite this deep crisis. Her current car is only five years old and she could still drive that one”, said a protester at the time.
Lovrić Merzel confirmed on Monday that the Audi A6 which had caused such a stir will be returned back to the leasing company.
“Tomorrow I will return the Audi A6 back to the leasing house and pay the two rates out of my own pocket. A car will not get in the way of me and my citizens. I will continue to work 24 hours a day for the good of this county and the people,” said Lovrić Merzel to daily Jutarnji list. (pic: mojsisak)
