Croatia’s Marin Čilić has won his 16th career title on Sunday when he beat Japan’s Kei Nishikori in the final of the Swiss Indoors in Basel.
Čilić was too good for the World Number 5 in this afternoon’s final, winning in straight sets 6:1, 7:6.
“I want to congratulate Kei on a great week, today it was a tough match. I want to wish his all the best for the rest of the season. It is always a pleasure to play in Basel. Thanks also to my girlfriend who always brings me luck in finals”, Čilić said after the win, adding.
“There was a great atmosphere, I hope to come back next year and again play good tennis here.”
The title was Čilić’s second in 2016 and his first ATP World Tour Masters 500 crown of his career. The Croatian picks up just under 390,000 euros and 500 points in the race to end of season Masters event in London where the world’s top 10 players battle it out.
Čilić is currently in 9th place with a lead of 210 points over Czech’s Tomas Berdych.
