Croatian born tennis player Marina Erakovic has won her first WTA singles title, when she beat Sabine Lisicki in the final of the $US235,000 Memphis tournament on the weekend.
Erakovic beat the former world No.11after only 27 minutes on court. Marina, who moved to New Zealand with her family to live as a 6-year-old, took out the first set 6-1, before Lisicki retired due to an illness.
“It just feels incredible and it’s something that I’ve been working hard towards. This is my third final; sometimes you wonder if this will ever happen and I still don’t think it’s sunk in yet,” Erakovic said after the win which will propel her to inside the world’s top 60.
