Mario Mandzukic signs for Al-Duhail S.C

ZAGREB, 24 December 2019 – Former Croatian international Mario Mandzukic will continue his career in Qatar in the Qatar Stars League.
Mandzukic has signed for Doha-based Al-Duhail Sports Club after passing a medical on Sunday. The club, who are based in the Duhail district in the city of Doha, announced the news of the deal on social media this afternoon.
“Welcome to Al-Duhail, Mario Mandzukic,” the club wrote above a photo of the Croatian signing the deal.
Al-Duhail S.C are currently top of the Qatar Stars League and are coached by Portuguese Rui Faria, who was a long-time assistant to Jose Mourinho.
After being left out of Juventus’ UEFA Champions League squad and not featuring at all in Maurizio Sarri’s side this season, Mandzukic had been linked with a move to Manchester United and also Los Angeles Football Club in the MLS.
The 33-year-old striker, who famously took Croatia to the World Cup final when he scored in extra-time against England, reportedly turned down an offer to join Qatari side Al-Gharafa in September. He scored 44 goals in 164 appearances for Juventus.
Before joining Juve, Mandzukic played for Marsonia, NK Zagreb, Dinamo Zagreb, VfL Wolfsburg, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid. He won the Champions League with Bayern in 2012-13 and represented Croatia on 89 occasions, scoring 33 times, including in the World Cup final. He retired from international football after the World Cup in 2018.
