ZAGREB, 8 Oct (Hina) – On the occasion of the 140th anniversary of Croatian sculptor and architect Ivan Meštrović’s birth, an exhibition will be held in the Klovićevi Dvori Gallery in Zagreb from 22 November to 3 March, with more than two hundred selected exhibits arriving from all over the world.
Antonio Picukarić, the director of the Klovićevi Dvori Gallery, told a news conference on Friday that this is the largest and most important exhibition during his term in office, not only in terms of the number and dimensions of the exhibits, but also because it is about the greatest artist.
“We will do the campaign outside of Croatia, in the countries of the region, but also in Hungary, Italy, Austria”, said Picukarić after signing a contract with OTP bank, the main sponsor of the exhibition.
Balazs Bekeffy, President of the OTP bank Management Board, expressed his satisfaction that they can mark the anniversary of Meštrović’s birth, but also help the young generations get closer to his works, to get the opportunity to see what was created more than a hundred years ago.
Ivan Meštrovic, born on 15 August 1883, was a Croatian sculptor and architect. He is renowned as possibly the greatest sculptor of religious subject matter since the Renaissance, the first living person to have a one man show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
