Tonko Sušac, a second-generation Croatian-American baseball player at the University of Arizona, was a guest this week on the All Things Croatia podcast.
Tonko, who is a pitcher, has a bright future in the game, but it is no surprise considering he grew up in a big baseball family.
His cousin, Andrew Sušac, played six seasons in the Major League and won a World Series with San Francisco Giants in 2014.
Daniel Sušac, Andrew’s younger brother, was recently drafted for the Oakland A’s, whilst the third brother, Matt, played for the Croatian national team.
Tonko’s father, John, also has been a big influence in his career as a coach.
On the podcast, Tonko talks more about his baseball future, his sporting family as well as telling the story of how his grandparents immigrated to the U.S. and became leaders in setting up the Croatian community in his hometown of Sacramento.
In the episode Tonko also talks about his love for Croatia and Croatian music and food, the influence his heritage has had on him and more.
