If you’re a fan of lamb and pig on the spit, there’s one place in Croatia that’s worth going out of your way for: Izletište Miki in Prozor.

As fewer places offer this traditional delicacy today, mainly due to the highway to the coast opening and forcing many of these places on the old road to close, Izletište Miki stands out by preserving the old-school charm and authentic flavours that are increasingly rare.

Located about ten minutes from Otočac in the scenic Gacka Valley, Miki’s is a must-visit.

At Miki’s, which is run by the wonderful Brajković couple, who have been together for nearly 60 years, there is no menu. The focus is solely on lamb and pig cooked on the spit, prepared to perfection.

The spit-roasted lamb is priced at 35 euros per kilogram, while the pig is 30 euros per kilogram. Alongside the succulent meat, you’ll get the quintessential sides – Lika potatoes, spring onions, salad and of course bread.

The restaurant has a large covered terrace where you can watch the lambs and pigs turning on the spit. The spacious terrace, as well as the indoor restaurant, can accommodate up to 150 guests in total, making it perfect also for gatherings.

The Brajković couple’s hands-on approach and personal touch add character and charm to the place, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Married as teenagers, the Brajković’s are not just the owners but the heart and soul of Miki’s and do everything themselves.

As well as lamb and pig, they are even happy to dish up love advice, saying that hard work, teamwork and comprise has been the key to being together all these decades.

Izletište Miki is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Whether you’re combining your visit with a trip to Otočac or making a special journey for lunch, the experience at Izletište Miki is sure to be memorable.
