A mural has been unveiled on the main road (D106) towards the Croatian island Pag in honor of two famous Miočić’s from the the northern Dalmatian village of Rtina.

The mural, which honors Stipe and Mirko Miočić, was created by artist Viko Stojanović and funded by the Municipality of Ražanac and the residents of Rtina.

“The residents of Rtina decided to honor these two great men because they never forgot to mention where they came from, which is Rtina. This mural is their way of expressing gratitude,” wrote Ante Miletić, the director of the Ražanac Municipality Tourist Board.

Mirko Miočić was one of Croatia’s most famous quiz show contestants, frequently mentioning his hometown of Rtina where he lived.

During the early years of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire,” more than 50 other contestants called him as their “Phone-a-Friend” lifeline. Because Mirko was one of the most frequently called “Phone-a-Friends,” the editorial team of the Croatian version of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” changed the rules so that the same person could be called a maximum of three times per season.

From 2013 to March 2016, he was a chaser on the quiz show “The Chase.”

Mirko Miočić passed away in 2017 at the age of 60.

The Croatian roots of UFC legend Stipe Miočić have been well documented. His late father hailed from Rtina, whilst his mother is from Cetingrad.

Miočić is proud of his Croatian heritage and recently got another Croatian-inspired tattoo on his arm after the coat of arms he got on his foot many years ago.
